an undisciplined project

*Critical Study is an intensive one-week virtual workshop series. Each workshop in the series engages a specific theoretical question through lectures, readings, guest conversations and other workshop exercises. The series is imagined as a community space and a toolkit for emerging artists, designers, filmmakers, writers, curators, students, etc., who are interested in building a critical strain into or alongside their other practices.

The series will always be free of tuition or other participatory fees.

As a result of the material and intellectual labor needed to arrange this, the program is irregular and spontaneous. Nonetheless, each workshop in the series maintains a commitment to intellectual rigor and openness. The series particularly welcomes participants who have little familiarity with “critical theory”. Yet, each workshop will involve a serious engagement with numerous theoretical concepts, with an aim towards understanding through complexity rather than simplification.

In other terms: this is a thinking space.

Critical Study: Black Interiors is the first iteration of the workshop series.

Through August 3 - 9, 2026, a cohort of twelve participants will discuss the intersections of historical blackness, and the conditions of interiority. This workshop centers West African (diasporic) subjectivities, but anyone anywhere is open to apply.

A firm commitment to participation is required.
